ABOUT THE PROJECT

Carrum Beach Rock Wall and Rock Revetment - Carrum

Carrum Beach is located south-east of Melbourne CBD and is situated between Bonbeach and Seaford beach. Due to recent funding as part of Carrum’s revitalisation project, the area has become a popular recreational area for leisure, swimming, surfing and fishing.

The project is located on Carrum foreshore at the mouth of Patterson River. Works involved the construction and continuation of rock revetment structures at Johnson Ave (built over the old Carrum Sailing and Motor Boat Club), and at Stephens St.

Rock revetments or seawalls act as a permanent barrier between the shore and higher mainland. They are a critical structure in preventing subsidence of land, and for protection from erosion caused by wave action.

WORKS

  • Demolition of existing retaining wall
  • Excavation of existing beach sand to grade
  • Construction of rock armour walls including placement of geotextile, bedding and filter layers, armour and toe rock
  • Sand infill – grade back to road
