ABOUT THE PROJECT
Eastern Park Stormwater Harvest
As part of Geelong City councils Sustainable Water Use Plan the Stormwater harvesting and reuse project will divert stormwater that is currently flowing out to Corio Bay through a treatment process and into a storage basin. The project will replace approximately 90% of the water demand at this site, saving up to 30 million litres of mains drinking water annually and improve the quality of the stormwater discharge into Corio Bay.
The harvested water will flow through a rock filled sediment pond into an open water pond that holds about 4 million litres and will take up an area of approximately 7000m2.
The water will be used for watering the Geelong Botanic Gardens, establishing trees in the Park and also be available for Council’s ongoing tree maintenance and establishment program within and around Eastern Park. Research has found that up until 1925 this exact site in Eastern Park was a lake until it was filled in to create a cricket field.
Works Include:
• Bulk earthworks and grading
• Installation of clay liner to ponds
• Rock work Construction
• Supply and Installation of pump, UV and sand filters
• Supply and installation of pressure pipe works including connections to storage pond, and rising main
• Rising main and pump to transfer filtered water to storage
• Landscaping
• Supply and install GPT
