ABOUT THE PROJECT

Suffern reserve Wetlands

As part of the Knox Community and Council Plan to enhance and maximise the use and care of Dandenong Creek, council along with Melbourne Water designed the new Suffern Avenue Wetlands in Bayswater. Entracon was engaged to construct the new stormwater treatment wetland within the reserve to filter stormwater runoff from surrounding urban areas before it enters Dandenong Creek. Works at the site included creating a new water quality treatment/habitat wetland, seating areas, natural play elements for bush discoveries, new path links, new plants and shrubs to improve plant diversity and habitat for wildlife at the reserve, as well as aquatic plants within the wetland to provide treatment functions and safe breeding areas for native fish, turtles, frogs and birdlife. In only a matter of weeks 3 different species of frogs had already made the wetlands their home.
